Learn why Da Hong Pao earned its fame, cup by cup
Half dayWuyishan
From $77 per group
Wuyishan is the birthplace of rock tea, and locals drink it all day. This short afternoon goes beyond a shop visit: you walk an actual tea garden, hear how the mineral-rich soil shapes the flavour, then sit down to taste and try your hand at the making process.
Best suited to travelers curious about tea, food culture or local craft — no prior knowledge needed, and you leave knowing how to spot a real Da Hong Pao.
Sample itinerary
- 13:30 — Hotel pickup and drive to the Dahongpao Scenic Area
- 14:00 — Walk the tea garden trail to the cliffs where the original Da Hong Pao mother trees grow (about 1 hour, gentle paths with some steps)
- 15:15 — Transfer to a local teahouse; guided tasting of 4–5 rock teas with explanation of roast levels and vintages
- 16:15 — Hands-on tea-making session: shaking the leaves and watching the pan-firing step
- 17:00 — Return transfer; drop-off around 17:30
Good to know
The garden trail is about 2 km with some stairs, so comfortable shoes help. Tea contains caffeine — if you are sensitive, tell your guide and we will keep the tasting light. Tea purchased at the teahouse is optional and never pushed; prices are fixed and listed. This tour runs in the afternoon, so it pairs well with a morning hike on Tianyou Peak.
