Namcha Barwa, at 7,782 metres, is the eastern anchor of the Himalayas and the highest peak in Tibet's Nyingchi region. Revered as a sacred mountain, its sharp pyramid rises above the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, offering one of the most dramatic and elusive views in China. With our private guides, you'll know exactly when and where to catch it on a clear day.

Namcha Barwa (Chinese: 南迦巴瓦峰) is the highest peak in the eastern Himalayas and the 28th highest in the world. It sits in the Medog County of Nyingchi, Tibet, where the Yarlung Tsangpo River makes a sharp bend around it before plunging into the world's deepest canyon. The mountain is sacred to local Tibetan Buddhists, who believe it is the home of a deity, and its name means 'spear thrust into the sky' in Tibetan. Its steep, unclimbed summit (until 1992) and unpredictable weather have earned it a reputation as one of the most difficult peaks in the region.
For travellers, Namcha Barwa is the centrepiece of a Nyingchi itinerary that includes the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, Basum Lake, and the lush forests of Sejila Mountain. The peak is best viewed from the Sejila Pass or from the village of Suosong, where the Yarlung Tsangpo River curves around the mountain. The area is also home to the Lhoba and Monba ethnic groups, adding cultural depth to the spectacular scenery. Our guides can arrange permits and transport, ensuring a smooth journey to this remote and breathtaking destination.
