Every street has a story
Anna never gives the same tour twice — because no two guests walk the same street the same way.
My first mentor told me a city is a book, and a tour is which pages you choose to read. I've never forgotten it. It's why I never give the same tour twice.
I read the guest before I read the street. A history professor gets the dynasties. A chef gets the kitchens. A tired couple gets the quiet courtyards and the best coffee. The city doesn't change — but the story I tell changes with who's listening.
There's a teahouse in Chengdu where the same man has served jasmine tea for thirty years. I've brought a hundred guests there. Every single one remembered it differently — the old man's smile, the way the water poured, the sound of the bamboo chairs. Same place, a hundred stories.
A guest from Italy once told me my tours felt like a conversation, not a lecture. That's exactly right. I'm not reading the city to you. I'm reading it with you.
