All day tours · ShanghaiZhujiajiao Water Town Half-Day Tour
Canals, stone bridges and riverside teahouses in Shanghai's best-preserved ancient water town.
Half dayShanghai
From $103 per group
An hour west of Shanghai, Zhujiajiao is the water town the city grew out of — 36 stone bridges, willow-lined canals and lanes that have barely changed in centuries. It is the calmest half-day you can add to a Shanghai trip.
The plan
- 08:00 Hotel pickup, 60–75 minute drive to Zhujiajiao
- 09:15 Walk the Fangsheng Bridge and North Street old quarter
- 10:00 Private wooden boat ride through the canals
- 10:45 Ke Zhi Garden and the Qing-era post office
- 12:00 Lunch by the water (optional), return to Shanghai
Good to know
Mornings are quietest — by midday tour groups arrive. The boat ride seats up to six and is covered. Cobblestones are uneven, so flat shoes are a good idea.
Highlights
- A 1,700-year-old canal town an hour from Shanghai — bridges, boats and whitewashed lanes
- Private wooden boat ride through the canals (the town's signature view)
- Ke Zhi Garden and the Qing-era post office, quiet corners most groups skip
- Back in Shanghai by early afternoon
