Window of the World

Window of the World is Shenzhen's beloved miniature-globe theme park, packing 130-plus scaled landmarks—from the Eiffel Tower to the Taj Mahal—into one walkable, photo-friendly campus in Nanshan. It's kitsch, it's fun, and it's a painless half-day for families or anyone short on time. With our private guide handling tickets, routes and timing, you skip the queues and see the best bits without the footsore guesswork.

What it is

Opened in 1994 by the OCT Group, Window of the World was part of Shenzhen's first wave of cultural theme parks, built to give the booming Special Economic Zone a slice of global iconography. The park spreads across roughly 48 hectares and groups its miniatures by continent, with faithful scale models of the Pyramids, Angkor Wat, the Colosseum, Sydney Opera House and more, plus evening shows and a nightly fireworks-and-light display that has become a local ritual.

The models are crafted at scales from 1:1 to 1:100, and the Eiffel Tower replica—108 metres tall—is climbable for a panoramic view over Shenzhen Bay. Expect a mix of educational plaques, landscaped gardens and performance venues. It's less a museum than a cheerful, slightly surreal world tour on foot, and it pairs neatly with nearby Splendid China and OCT Loft for a full Nanshan day.

Highlights

  • Eiffel Tower replica — At 108 metres, it's a third the height of the real thing but still offers a lift to an observation deck with sweeping Shenzhen Bay views.
  • Continental zones — Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas are laid out in sequence, so you can 'cross' five continents in about two hours of strolling.
  • Evening spectacular — A nightly parade, light show and fireworks over the central lake turn the park into a different, more magical place after dark.
  • Angkor Wat and Pyramids — Among the most convincing models, set in landscaped gardens that make for genuinely good photographs without the crowds of the originals.
  • Cultural performances — Rotating shows from African drumming to Japanese tea ceremony run throughout the day; check the app for times and catch two or three.

How to get there

Take Shenzhen Metro Line 1 or Line 2 to Window of the World Station (世界之窗站), Exit J—the park entrance is a two-minute walk. From Futian or Luohu it's 25–40 minutes by metro; a taxi from central Shenzhen costs roughly ¥50–80. Many travellers pair it with a morning at Splendid China Folk Village next door, then stay for the evening show. Our guide can meet you at your hotel and manage the metro or a private car, so the day flows without transfers.

Tickets & practical info

Day tickets are around ¥220 for adults and ¥110 for children (1.2–1.5 m) or seniors; evening-only tickets after 19:00 are often cheaper at about ¥100. Opening hours are typically 09:00–22:30, with the last entry around 21:00. Book via the official WeChat mini-program or Trip.com; foreign cards work on Trip.com, while on-site WeChat Pay and Alipay accept international cards if linked.

Best time to visit

Visit on a weekday in spring (March–May) or autumn (October–December) when Shenzhen's heat and humidity ease. Arrive by 15:00 to cover the models in daylight, then stay for the 19:30 parade and fireworks—this single visit gives you both the daytime photo tour and the night-time spectacle without a second ticket.

Tips from our guides

  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection; the park is largely open-air with limited shade, and you'll walk 5–8 km.
  • Download the park's WeChat mini-program for a live map and show schedule—signage in English exists but is patchy in the outer zones.
  • Eat before or after rather than inside; nearby OCT Harbour and Yitian Village offer far better food at similar prices.
  • For the Eiffel Tower lift, go early or just before sunset to avoid the longest queues and get the best light.
  • If you're sensitive to crowds, avoid Chinese public holidays and weekends, when the evening show area fills up 30 minutes in advance.

FAQ

Is Window of the World worth visiting for adults without children?

Yes, if you treat it as a playful, photogenic stroll rather than a serious cultural site. The evening show and Eiffel Tower views are the highlights for adults.

How long do I need at Window of the World?

Allow three to four hours for the models, plus another hour if you stay for the evening parade and fireworks. A half-day is ideal.

Can I pay with a foreign credit card at the ticket office?

On-site counters usually prefer WeChat Pay or Alipay; link an international card to either app in advance. Booking on Trip.com with a foreign card is the simplest option.

Is the park accessible for wheelchairs or strollers?

Main paths are paved and mostly flat, so strollers and manual wheelchairs work well. Some model zones have steps; staff can point out step-free routes.
